 | Aaron Seibert New Hampshire, USAAaron Seibert, a singer-songwriter-guitarist, an extraordinary performer… original like no other. Highly intense, incredibly dynamic, eclectic, quirky, he creates a musical experience not easily forgotten. Simply put… he’s a natural. Aaron has played over 500+ high energy performances since 1999. Playing so much and so hard that he created a hole in his 1995 Guild D-4 model guitar last winter. He continues to sharpen his skills and increase his always naturally powerful stage presence with every finger & guitar shredding performance. Aaron started playing guitar in 1990 while he was attending his final semester at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York. As a child, his first major influences were The Rolling Stones, the Beatles, Steely Dan, Aerosmith, Queen, and Bob Seger. Later, in his teens, he discovered Stevie Wonder and Peter Frampton to be his favorites, which have remained to this day. Playing every performance like it was his last, his style is all his own and his songs are equally enthralling and personal. Aaron Seibert is meant for the stage and his songs are meant to be heard and remembered… for years to come. | | |

Independents embrace file-sharing (Macworld): Not everyone in the music industry is afraid of file-sharing; some independent labels are positively embracing it.
President of V2 Records (The White Stripes, Moby) Andy Gershon believes that it is better to work with the file-sharing networks, in fact he thinks there is opportunity to be found there. Gershon told Associated Press: "The cat is so far out of the bag and so far gone that it's pointless to keep fighting it. I might as well make as many people fans of our music, whether they illegally download it or not."
(...)
Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has a similar view. "I look at it [file sharing] as a library. I look at it as our version of the radio. It's a place where basically we can encourage fans to be fans and not feel like they're being exploited, which is basically what the whole industry is geared to do," he said.
(...)
Other methods of distribution are being tested, for example, Sovereign Artists has promoted and sold tracks using the online Weed file-sharing format. This lets listeners hear a song for free several times before having to buy it. Weed files are distributed to Web sites and across file-sharing networks. Peer-to-peer users share more than stolen songs (Reuters): (...) That approach has been used for a year now by a company called Weed (http://www.weedshare.com), whose format has proven popular with independent artists.
Users don't need special software to download Weed songs. A band can sell its Weed-encoded songs through its own Web site, but it also makes money when fans copy songs from one another.
"It's completely decentralised," Weed President John Beezer said. "We want people who are interested to find music quickly."
Beezer said Weed has been most successful so far with cult artists like Sananda Maitreya (http://www.sanandapromotion.com), formerly known as Terence Trent D'Arby.
Agreements with major labels are in the works, Beezer said.

16:05 : Artist of the day: Curtis
[ link | (0) ]
 | Curtis Los Angeles, California, USACurtis is a native of southern California. He performs through out the southland and beyond with his band; Rob Chismar on drums and Dave Hill on bass. « I started playing classical guitar at a very young age on an acoustic guitar that my parents picked up in Tijuana before I was born. This souvenir was made of green wood and had nylon strings high above the fingerboard. Soon after I started lessons I dropped the guitar, splitting the body of the guitar open. My Dad put it back together with Elmers glue; he refused to buy me a new guitar until I proved that I would learn to play. Over the following months I dropped it three more times and three more times he glued it back together. There was a thick line of glue all around the guitar. After two years of playing I got a Les Paul copy for Christmas. I could almost taste that guitar I wanted it so bad. To the dismay of my classical teacher, it was time to plug-in. » Curtis was nominated for « Guitarist of the Year » for the 11th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards and was included in Music Connection Magazine's « 100 Top Unsigned Bands » for 2001. | | |

16:00 : Artist of the day: Color Theory
[ link | (0) ]
 | Color Theory California, USABrian Hazard of Color Theory creates piano-driven electronic pop with a romantic soul, combining the emotional intensity of Tori Amos with a spacious backdrop of luscious synths and dance floor beats to create a distinctly modern brand of pop sophistication. The Southern California one-man band has been stirring emotions since the 1994 release of Sketches In Grey. 1997's Tuesday Song includes a daringly non-fiction song used for a real-life marriage proposal. 1999 heralded the release of Perfect Tears, which was so intimate that it was promoted through a series of personal ads. 2001's Life's Fairytale further explores Hazard's electronic tendencies, and includes the song « Ponytail Girl,» mistakenly traded around the world as a Depeche Mode B-side. The instrumentation of 2002's Something Beautiful falls somewhere between a rock band and a Broadway musical: piano, vocals, fretless bass, drums (courtesy of the legendary Jonathan Moffett), string quartet, vibraphone, flute, and harp. | | |

17:03 : On Tour: Cold Duck Complex
[ link | (0) ]
 | Cold Duck Complex Massachusetts, USACold Duck Complex is a method, a means of capturing a moment of intensity, fun, pure excitement - music that makes you feel good, but not simple party music; music that makes you think, but without interrupting the dance party. The marriage of hip-hop lyrics to jazz and funk music, though not unheard of, is a new beast here - placing the instruments on an equal plane with the voice pushes this fusion in a direction that few, if any, have taken before. Equally likely to be exploring the sonic palette of a tin-pan alley standard or an early '90s west coast hip-hop groove, this music is created for the sheer joy of experiencing every second of it... no two seconds ever the same, no song played the same way twice. | | |
