3 new Coldthroat tracks have just been uploaded to the server.

Nebula is an engaging doom-laden composition in 3 movements reminiscent of King Crimson's "The Devil Triangle," while   Wind is more akin to the sonic territory explored by the KC'S R&D units known as the ProjeKcts.

Milk is For Cows is the first chapter of the "Of Sound Mind?" tetralogy and consists of all 6 currently available Coldthroat files represented into one 30-minute long piece.

Buddy Holly's former band The Crickets have just released their brand new studio album "The Crickets & Their Buddies" in Weed format!

The band that helped invent Rock n' Roll is joined by a number of their buddies including Eric Clapton, Rodney Crowell, Waylon Jennings, Graham Nash, John Prine, Albert Lee, and Nanci Griffith.

The new album was recorded in Nashville and Los Angeles by Grammy-award-winning producer/engineer Greg Ladanyi (Jackson Browne, Fleetwood Mac, Toto). It contains 15 new tracks of classic songs, including a legendary "lost" Crickets song "Someone, Someone" that features a brilliant performance by Eric Clapton.

Another stand-out track is one of the last recordings by country music legend Waylon Jennings, who became friends with The Crickets while still a teenager and now brings his inimitable style to the song "Well Alright."

Here's the complete track listing:
  • Rodney Crowell - That’ll Be The Day
  • Phil Everly - Rave On
  • Tonio K. & Peter Case - Not Fade Away
  • Eric Clapton - Someone, Someone
  • The Crickets - The Real Buddy Holly Story

Time for a roundup of what's going on in the busy world of Weed!

In the news

Rock Legend Heart Breaks New Ground With Simultaneous Retail and File-Sharing Release of 'Jupiters Darling':

With sales of more than 30,000 CDs and 2,000 digital tracks, the album is yielding significant sales via the secure Weed format redistributed through peer-to-peer (P2P) software programs such as Kazaa and Grokster, which are offered by DCIA Members. In the past week, the number of tracks purchased through the Weed file-sharing process has outnumbered those purchased through iTunes.

Morpheus owner StreamCast Networks has signed a deal with Sovereign Artists and SML:

(...) the Heart / Morpheus p2p distribution promotion illustrates another substantial legitimate use of p2p applications and just how valuable certain providers find p2p apps, like Morpheus, to be for their own livelihood. The more content providers embrace p2p companies for promotion, distribution and sales, the better it'll be for everyone.

P2Pers: we can make file-sharing secure and outsell iTunes:

In a bid to persuade the music industry that P2P networks can encourage legal file-sharing, P2P companies today claimed that more people have bought tracks from Heart's new album, 'Jupiter's Darling', via the likes of Grokster, Morpheus and Kazaa than through Apple's iTunes Music Store.

The Weed Files is proud to introduce new artist Steve Lieberman to the Weed community.

From his bio:

It's been just two years since bass-revolutionary, eccentric flutist, exotic multi-instrumentalist, Gangsta Rabbi, mad-scientist music innovator and one-man self-promotion machine first appeared on an mp3 chart. In those 2 years, Lieberman has released 4 full-length CDs where he did all the writing, playing, singing, production, arranging, artwork, you name it, has been interviewed on college and internet radio and international websites of many genres, has topped mp3 charts worldwide in virtually every genre except classical and blues and has played live to cheering packed rooms.

This however didn't happen overnight for Steve. It took over 3 decades! Teaching himself to play the bass in 1971, he quickly discovered that by turning the instrument upside-down without reversing the strings and applying distortion, the bass can sound like a Strat on steroids. He became the wild-man lead bass player in a series of prototype metal bands throughout the 1970's. During the 80's and 90's, Lieberman became an angst-possessed post-punk singer-songwriter, a favorite at the local Long Island, NY original music scene because of his chain-saw bass strumming, lightning-fast leads and in-your-face thought-provoking politically and religiously charged lyrics and Chasidic hippy demeanor. From 1991-2001, Steve Lieberman released 38 independent albums!

The Weed Files is pleased to introduce new artist Coldthroat to the Weed community.

Coldthroat talks about his music:

Making organized sound to make humans feel things makes me feel happy. I was told by the others to do this as they said my brain had a unique configuration pre disposed to invoking a plethora of human response through aural compositions. They said I was Of Sound Mind. They said they would observe the effects on the recipients of my music and develop control tools and soft power with the data. - Thank you, enjoy, and remember Coldthroat loves you.
