The server hosting almost all of our Weed files has been hacked over the weekend, and all of its contents have been lost. At this point, a little more than half of the files have been re-uploaded, and the restoration process should be completed by tomorrow morning.

New sites

Four newcomers to weed sharing, the original webring of Weed download sites:

  • Hungry-media tunes aims to become your best source for Weed format electronic & moody music.

  • All music on PipeWeed - Music From Middle Earth is inspired by JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings and was created by independent artists who have personally visited Middle Earth ... in heart and in spirit, if not in body.

  • Evil Chopper Weedbytes is a source for cutting edge alternative and hip hop weed files from the Chicago underground.

  • Bottom Rung Records has been an indie cyberlabel for over 3 years and now features electronic delivery via download of weed files.

DownloadWeed.com has added 4 new tracks from the infamous Helios Creed.

Coolerweed.net has posted the music of Prince EQ, a solo rapper out of Atlanta, who has gained hundreds of thousands of fans on the internet with his bass music beats and party raps.

And finally, Weed file gardener Steve Turnidge has something really special. At 84, his father Paul has recorded his first album, a collection of hymns from a 1948 songbook.

New sites

Two additions to the webring of Weed download sites:
  • the Digital Goods Store is a home for ArtMachine originals and a few from the artist's personal stash, from the man who is Deep Blue Funk.

  • Steven Smedley is an independent student of music and poetry whose work ranges from hip hop instrumentals to spoken word to hard core trance.
New music

The WeedStash introduces Helen Sventitsky to the Weed community. Helen is a singer, a songwriter, a poet and occasional actress. Using a distinct mix of pop, folk and electronica with a dash of soul, her compositions utilize experimental rhythms, dark themes, and complex, poetic lyrics. A definite, and personal, turn of adult alternative at it's most provocative. Her voice and songs have been favorably compared to such diverse performers as Sarah MacLachlan, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Kate Bush.

Hot from the oven? Weedtunes.com has a new nice piano piece from Loren DiGiorgi titled "Misplaced Priorities." The tune was composed and recorded in one night, and made available for download the next day!

New Music

Lots of new files on DownloadWeed.com:
  • The Weekend: excruciatingly catchy music that grabs hold of your ears delivering a "tighter", "harder" and "faster" rock pop noise. The Weekend is like The Cars and Fleetwood Mac, geno-spliced with Andrew W.K., Pink and Jimmy Eat World.

  • Stinkmitt: these ladies get down and even dirtier than Sir Mix-a-Lot!

  • great lake swimmers: "... is a candidate for the most subtly intoxicating album of 2003. Largely the work of one man, Toronto-based singer/songwriter Tony Dekker, the music relies on a delicate combination of voice and acoustic guitar -- lightly colored by piano, accordion, lap steel and a low, choral hum of crickets -- to create an incomparably intimate relationship between music and listener..."

  • The Two-Minute Miracles: incorporate distorted acoustic guitars to soft brass band arrangements to toy pianos into songs that cannot be fit neatly into any restrictive little box.

  • Put My Faith In Jah: is a charity record committed to improving the life of the people of Jamaica by helping to implement several programs geared at providing much needed services. The album features a never-before-released seven plus minute live version of Peter Tosh performing "Get Up, Stand Up."
Hungry Media Tunes introduces Fisher, a voice described as "a hot rock wrapped in velvet," placed in a strikingly beautiful young woman. An act that is both talented and seasoned. And most importantly, an act that moves people with passionate, thoughtful music.

The terrific classical piano of Magnus Svensson can be found in Ars Divina Weed File Garden.

There's more Method In Madness at The FWeedom Lodge.

New sites

The newest addition to the webring is weed harvest, a fertile ground for music in the Weed format now featuring the music of Staring At The Sea.

There's no lifeguard or lawyer required at the newly launched www.weedified.net.

Loren DiGiorgi has just started a blog dedicated to Weed music and aptly called The Daily Weed. From his first post:

I love music. Have loved it all my life. When I learned that I could legally share music, I jumped at the chance of setting up this site. After all, what better way to make a difference in someone's day than to offer them something that touches them inside? And that is the basis for this site.

Discellany

I DEFY fans will want to see this video of the band promoting Weed at Hempfest with Fly-A-Discs. (Warning: parental guidance for language! Though I DEFY fans must have noticed by now...)

New music

A Weed first! The WeedStash offers Singularity's 15 piece concept album "Between Sunlight and Shadow" as a single file! For the less curious among you who still haven't downloaded the file, it clocks at 43:36 and costs only 8 derisory dollars.

More music from Billy Atwell, Mikey General, Lehbanchuleh, and The Semibeings is available at DownloadWeed.com.

For you urban country fans out there, Seattle band The Swains has just been planted in Ars Divina Weed File Garden.

Riël Malan of South Africa masterfully blends authentic African sounds and music with contemporary gospel. You can hear his music at ChristianWeed.com.

The FWeedom Lodge has new tracks from Chieko Mori Project and Method In Madness.

Hot Rubber Glove's complete "Elexotica" album has been added to the music section at www.ozmusicweed.com and is now available for download.
