Weed offers do-it-yourself, pay-as-you-go promotion and distribution—with minimal up-front cost.
When you release your music as Weed files, you can give them away freely, post them on Web sites, distribute them on CDs, or share them on a peer-to-peer network.
Anybody who receives one of your Weed files can listen to it up to three times for free. After that, they're asked to buy it—at whatever price you set, and they're also incited to share it. You get 50% on every sale of your music, and 35% are shared between the people who helped spread your music.
You don't need to be signed to a label or even have a full CD produced to get started.
Weed currently offers a free $5 account balance with every new account, so your fans can start getting your music quickly and easily.
The Weedification Process
PayPal Account
Since Weed payments are handled via PayPal, you must own a valid PayPal account. You will need your PayPal account email address to complete your submission, so if you do not have a PayPal account, please
create one before submitting your music.
Rightsholder Agreement
We will send you a Rightsholder Agreement that you'll have to sign before your music can be distributed in Weed format. This document asserts that the rightsholders (most probably you and your bandmates if any) have all the necessary distribution rights for the songs. Multiple songs can be listed on the same agreement as long as they all have identical rightsholders. You have to be aware that all the relevant rightsholders will have to sign the agreement before the music can be Weedified.
Music
The music you submit must be in the Windows Media format (wma for audio files, wmv for video files). You can convert your music to this format by yourself if you prefer, or you can send us an audio CD or a DVD and we'll do it for you.
Please note that we cannot accept cover songs or music that includes samples from published artists unless you have the appropriate written clearances to distribute those songs.
Weedification
Once your submission is complete, we will contact you to let you know how you can send us your music.
Your music will then be Weedified, and you'll be able to download your Weed files from our music store. You'll also be free to spread them any way you like.
Rightsholder Account
A Weed Rightsholder account will be created in your name. This account will enable you to track your sales and withdraw your earnings into your PayPal account.
Artist Area
You'll also be invited to sign up for an account in our
Artist Area. This account will enable you to easily manage your content online and access your statistics.
Please note that all the services mentioned above, including lifetime hosting, are provided for free.
If your music has already been Weedified by another Independent Content Provider, there's no need to go through the submission process. Simply sign up for an account in our
Artist Area, and start uploading and managing your content right away.
